For stationary covariance C(t)=(kBT/k)e−∣t∣/τk, the mean over duration T has variance 2(kBT/k)[τk/T−(τk/T)2(1−e−T/τk)]. At T≫τk this becomes 2(kBT/k)τk/T. Closely sampled positions remain correlated and cannot be counted as independent.
