Bessel beam by Wikipedia Bot 0
A Bessel beam is a type of wave that has an unusual structure characterized by a central lobe surrounded by concentric rings. It is a solution to the wave equation, similar to other wave types but with unique properties. Bessel beams are named after the mathematician Friedrich Bessel, as their intensity distribution is described by Bessel functions.
Best-effort delivery refers to a type of network service in which a system makes a reasonable attempt to deliver data packets but does not guarantee successful delivery. This means that while the system will try to ensure that data is transmitted accurately and promptly, there are no formal guarantees regarding the quality or reliability of that delivery. In a best-effort delivery model: 1. **No Guarantees on Delivery:** The system does not ensure that packets will arrive at their destination.

Betti number by Wikipedia Bot 0
In algebraic topology, Betti numbers are a sequence of integers that provide important information about the topology of a topological space. They are used to classify spaces based on their connectivity properties and to understand their shape and structure. Specifically, the \(n\)-th Betti number, denoted \(b_n\), represents the rank of the \(n\)-th homology group \(H_n(X)\) of a topological space \(X\).
Betweenness centrality is a measure used in graph theory and network analysis to quantify the importance of a node (or vertex) within a network based on its position in relation to other nodes. It specifically assesses how often a node acts as a bridge along the shortest paths between two other nodes. ### Definition For a given node \( v \), betweenness centrality is calculated as follows: 1. **Identify all pairs of nodes** in the network.
Bibliometrics by Wikipedia Bot 0

Bi-hemispherical reflectance is a measure of how much light is reflected by a surface when illuminated from all directions over a hemisphere and then measured from another hemisphere. It is typically expressed as a ratio or percentage of the incident light that is reflected. In more detail: - **Bi-hemispherical** refers to the two hemispheres involved in the measurement: the hemisphere from which light is incident and the hemisphere from which the reflected light is measured.
Billion by Wikipedia Bot 0
A billion is a numerical value that represents one thousand million, or \(1,000,000,000\). It is commonly used in various fields such as finance, economics, and statistics to quantify large amounts. In the short scale, which is used in the United States and most English-speaking countries, one billion is defined as \(10^9\).
The binary entropy function quantifies the uncertainty associated with a binary random variable, which can take on two possible outcomes (commonly denoted as 0 and 1). It is an important concept in information theory, providing a measure of the amount of information or the level of disorder in a binary system.
Binary Reed-Solomon encoding is a type of error-correcting code that is used to detect and correct errors in data storage and transmission. Pinned article: ourbigbook/introduction-to-the-ourbigbook-project

Welcome to the OurBigBook Project! Our goal is to create the perfect publishing platform for STEM subjects, and get university-level students to write the best free STEM tutorials ever.
Everyone is welcome to create an account and play with the site: ourbigbook.com/go/register. We belive that students themselves can write amazing tutorials, but teachers are welcome too. You can write about anything you want, it doesn't have to be STEM or even educational. Silly test content is very welcome and you won't be penalized in any way. Just keep it legal!
We have two killer features:
  1. topics: topics group articles by different users with the same title, e.g. here is the topic for the "Fundamental Theorem of Calculus" ourbigbook.com/go/topic/fundamental-theorem-of-calculus
Articles of different users are sorted by upvote within each article page. This feature is a bit like:
    • a Wikipedia where each user can have their own version of each article
    • a Q&A website like Stack Overflow, where multiple people can give their views on a given topic, and the best ones are sorted by upvote. Except you don't need to wait for someone to ask first, and any topic goes, no matter how narrow or broad
This feature makes it possible for readers to find better explanations of any topic created by other writers. And it allows writers to create an explanation in a place that readers might actually find it.

  2. local editing: you can store all your personal knowledge base content locally in a plaintext markup format that can be edited locally and published either:
This way you can be sure that even if OurBigBook.com were to go down one day (which we have no plans to do as it is quite cheap to host!), your content will still be perfectly readable as a static site.
Figure 5. . You can also edit articles on the Web editor without installing anything locally.
