The Duffing map arises from the study of the Duffing equation, which is a nonlinear second-order differential equation used to describe certain oscillatory systems, particularly in mechanical and electrical contexts.
"Pars pro toto" is a Latin phrase that translates to "a part for the whole." It refers to a figure of speech or rhetorical device in which a part of something is used to represent the whole entity. This technique is often employed in literature, speech, and everyday language to create vivid imagery or to convey meaning more succinctly. For example, when someone refers to "the crown" to mean a monarchy or a king or queen, they are using "pars pro toto.
Raemer Schreiber is an American-born artist known primarily for his work in the fields of painting and printmaking. His artistic style often incorporates vibrant colors and abstract forms.
Eric M. Rogers could refer to multiple individuals, but without additional context, it's unclear who specifically you are referring to. It could be a person in academia, business, or another field.
Condensed matter physics is a branch of physics that focuses on the physical properties of condensed phases of matter, particularly liquids and solids. It encompasses a wide range of topics, including the study of crystal structures, electronic properties, magnetism, superconductivity, and the quantum behavior of matter at very low temperatures, among others.
The Knudsen force refers to a phenomenon observed in systems where gas flows through a porous medium or around particles, particularly when the mean free path of the gas molecules is comparable to or larger than the characteristic dimensions of the flow obstacles, such as pores or particles. This condition is often encountered in micro- or nanoscale systems, where conventional fluid dynamics equations may not be sufficient to describe the behavior of the gas.
André Darré is not a widely recognized figure in global contexts as of my last knowledge update in October 2023, and there might be limited information available about him.
Permutation codes are a type of error-correcting code that are used in coding theory. They are particularly useful in scenarios where the order of elements in a message can be rearranged or where the goal involves detecting and correcting errors that arise from the permutation of symbols. Here’s a more detailed breakdown: ### Fundamentals of Permutation Codes 1. **Permutation**: A permutation of a set is an arrangement of its elements in a particular order.
In biochemistry, the table of standard reduction potentials (E°' values) for half-reactions is crucial because it helps to predict the direction of redox reactions in biological systems. The standard reduction potential measures the tendency of a substance to gain electrons (be reduced). Here are some key points regarding its importance: 1. **Electron Transfer**: Many biochemical reactions involve the transfer of electrons, especially in metabolic pathways like cellular respiration and photosynthesis.
A **Mealy machine** is a type of finite state machine (FSM) that produces outputs based on both its current state and the current input symbol. Named after George H. Mealy, it is one of the two fundamental types of finite state machines, the other being the Moore machine. ### Key Characteristics of a Mealy Machine: 1. **States**: The Mealy machine has a finite set of states.
NetCDF, which stands for Network Common Data Form, is a set of software libraries and data formats used for array-oriented scientific data. It is widely utilized in the geosciences, climatology, meteorology, oceanography, and other fields where large datasets are common. The primary characteristics of NetCDF include: 1. **Self-describing Format**: NetCDF files contain metadata that describes the data they hold, making it easier for users to understand the contents and structure.
Pioneer 10 is a space probe that was launched by NASA on March 2, 1972. It was the first spacecraft to travel through the asteroid belt and make a flyby of Jupiter, which it accomplished on December 3, 1973. Pioneer 10 marked several significant milestones in space exploration, including being the first human-made object to travel outside the orbit of Mars.
Anil Kumar Bhattacharya could refer to various individuals, as it is a relatively common name in India. Without more context, it's difficult to determine who specifically you are referring to. It could be a name associated with an academic, a politician, a business figure, or someone else entirely.

Pinned article: Introduction to the OurBigBook Project

Welcome to the OurBigBook Project! Our goal is to create the perfect publishing platform for STEM subjects, and get university-level students to write the best free STEM tutorials ever.
Everyone is welcome to create an account and play with the site: ourbigbook.com/go/register. We belive that students themselves can write amazing tutorials, but teachers are welcome too. You can write about anything you want, it doesn't have to be STEM or even educational. Silly test content is very welcome and you won't be penalized in any way. Just keep it legal!
We have two killer features:
  1. topics: topics group articles by different users with the same title, e.g. here is the topic for the "Fundamental Theorem of Calculus" ourbigbook.com/go/topic/fundamental-theorem-of-calculus
Articles of different users are sorted by upvote within each article page. This feature is a bit like:
    • a Wikipedia where each user can have their own version of each article
    • a Q&A website like Stack Overflow, where multiple people can give their views on a given topic, and the best ones are sorted by upvote. Except you don't need to wait for someone to ask first, and any topic goes, no matter how narrow or broad
This feature makes it possible for readers to find better explanations of any topic created by other writers. And it allows writers to create an explanation in a place that readers might actually find it.

  2. local editing: you can store all your personal knowledge base content locally in a plaintext markup format that can be edited locally and published either:
This way you can be sure that even if OurBigBook.com were to go down one day (which we have no plans to do as it is quite cheap to host!), your content will still be perfectly readable as a static site.
Figure 5. . You can also edit articles on the Web editor without installing anything locally.

  4. Infinitely deep tables of contents:

Descendant pages can also show up as toplevel e.g.: ourbigbook.com/cirosantilli/chordate-subclade
