Let U⊂Rd be bounded, A∈Rd satisfy ∥A∥2<2, and f∈L2(U). The bilinear form
B(u,v)=∫U(∇u⋅∇v+uv+uA⋅∇v)
(1)
on H01(U) is bounded. The Cauchy-Schwarz inequality and 2ab≤a2+b2 give
B(u,u)≥(1−2∥A∥2)∥u∥H12,
(2)
so it is a coercive bilinear form. The Lax-Milgram theorem therefore gives a unique weak solution of −Δv+v+A⋅∇v=f with zero Dirichlet boundary condition.
