Intrinsic frequency ($\hat{\omega }$)

The intrinsic frequency is the frequency observed in a frame moving with the basic flow. For a wave of frequency $\omega$ and horizontal wavenumber $k$ in a uniform current $U$, it is $\hat{\omega }=\omega -kU$.
