For a normal mode, ∂t↦−iω, ∂x↦ik, and ∂x2↦−k2. Substitution into the linear complex Ginzburg-Landau equation gives
−iω+ikU−μ+(1+icd)k2=0.
(1)
Therefore the dispersion relation is
D(k,ω)=−iω+ikU−μ+(1+icd)k2=0,ω=Uk+(cd−i)k2+iμ.
(2)
For real k, its temporal growth rate is ωi=μ−k2, with unique maximum μ at k=0. Its real angular frequency is Uk+cdk2, displaying the separate advection and wave dispersion terms.
