The Linux Kernel reserves two zones of virtual memory:
- one for kernel memory
- one for programs
The exact split is configured by
CONFIG_VMSPLIT_...
. By default:- on 32-bit:
- on 64-bit: currently only 48-bits are actually used, split into two equally sized disjoint spaces. The Linux kernel just assigns:
- the bottom part to processes

- the top part to the kernel:

Kernel memory is also paged.
In previous versions, the paging was continuous, but with HIGHMEM this changed.

How can so much complexity come out from so few rules?
How can the proof be so long (thousands of papers)?? Surprise!!
And to top if all off, the awesomely named monster group could have a relationship with string theory via the monstrous moonshine?
The classification contains:
- cyclic groups: infinitely many, one for each prime order. Non-prime orders are not simple. These are the only Abelian ones.
- alternating groups of order 4 or greater: infinitely many
- groups of Lie type: a contains several infinite families
- sporadic groups: 26 or 27 of them depending on definitions

It was later integrated into the CPU, but the term MMU still used.
Name of the clade of archaea plus eukarya proposed at: www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fmicb.2015.00717/full. Much better term than prokaryote as that is not a clade. Let's hope it catches on!

- a Wikipedia where each user can have their own version of each article
- a Q&A website like Stack Overflow, where multiple people can give their views on a given topic, and the best ones are sorted by upvote. Except you don't need to wait for someone to ask first, and any topic goes, no matter how narrow or broad
This feature makes it possible for readers to find better explanations of any topic created by other writers.
