Keith Donnellan is a prominent American philosopher and a key figure in the philosophy of language and philosophical logic. He is best known for his work on reference, descriptions, and the nature of meaning. Donnellan is particularly recognized for introducing the distinction between referential and attributive uses of definite descriptions in his influential paper "Reference and Definite Descriptions," published in 1966. In this paper, Donnellan argued that when a speaker uses a definite description (e.g.
Mark Addis could refer to different subjects or individuals, but without specific context, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly which one you might be asking about. If you are referring to a public figure, author, academic, or a character from literature, could you please provide a bit more context?
The Chasman–Green lattice is a specific type of crystal structure that is particularly relevant in the context of crystallography and materials science. It is characterized by its unique arrangement of atoms, which can be described in terms of its symmetry and geometric properties. This lattice is named after the researchers who first analyzed and described its structure.
The Brauer–Wall group is an important concept in the field of algebra, particularly in algebraic K-theory and the theory of central simple algebras. It is named after mathematicians Richard Brauer and Norman Wall. ### Definition The Brauer–Wall group, often denoted \( Br(W) \), is defined in relation to a given ring \( R \).
The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística, or IBGE) is the official government agency responsible for producing statistical, geographic, and demographic information in Brazil. Established in 1936, the IBGE plays a crucial role in collecting, analyzing, and disseminating data that supports public policy, economic planning, and social research.
"Euclid's Data" is a work attributed to the ancient Greek mathematician Euclid, known primarily for his contributions to geometry. This particular text focuses on the nature and properties of geometric concepts, particularly concerning the conditions necessary to deduce certain propositions and relationships from given data. The work is notable for its exploration of the concept of data in the sense of what is assumed or given in a geometric problem.
The anti-nuclear movement in Vanuatu emerged in response to the significant nuclear testing conducted by France in the South Pacific, particularly during the 1970s and 1980s. Vanuatu, an archipelago nation, became a vocal opponent of nuclear testing after it gained independence from colonial rule in 1980.
Ivan S. Sokolnikoff is a notable figure in the field of applied mathematics and engineering, particularly known for his contributions to the study of differential equations and mathematical physics. He authored influential texts on topics such as integral equations, elasticity, and mathematical methods in engineering. His work has had a significant impact on the development of theories and applications in various branches of science and engineering.
Control theory is an interdisciplinary branch of engineering and mathematics that deals with the behavior of dynamic systems. It focuses on the design and implementation of controllers that manage the system's behavior to achieve desired objectives. Control theory is used in various applications, including aerospace, automotive, robotics, manufacturing, and process control. At its core, control theory strives to develop mathematical models of systems and to analyze their behavior over time.
Broad Fourteens is a term often associated with a specific type of chord in jazz and contemporary music, typically referring to a dominant seventh chord with an added altered 13th. The term "Broad Fourteens" may also be used more generally to describe certain harmonic structures or concepts related to jazz harmony. In terms of music theory, a "broad" application could mean that the analysis or usage extends beyond a strict definition, allowing for creative interpretations.

Pinned article: Introduction to the OurBigBook Project

Welcome to the OurBigBook Project! Our goal is to create the perfect publishing platform for STEM subjects, and get university-level students to write the best free STEM tutorials ever.
Everyone is welcome to create an account and play with the site: ourbigbook.com/go/register. We belive that students themselves can write amazing tutorials, but teachers are welcome too. You can write about anything you want, it doesn't have to be STEM or even educational. Silly test content is very welcome and you won't be penalized in any way. Just keep it legal!
We have two killer features:
  1. topics: topics group articles by different users with the same title, e.g. here is the topic for the "Fundamental Theorem of Calculus" ourbigbook.com/go/topic/fundamental-theorem-of-calculus
Articles of different users are sorted by upvote within each article page. This feature is a bit like:
    • a Wikipedia where each user can have their own version of each article
    • a Q&A website like Stack Overflow, where multiple people can give their views on a given topic, and the best ones are sorted by upvote. Except you don't need to wait for someone to ask first, and any topic goes, no matter how narrow or broad
This feature makes it possible for readers to find better explanations of any topic created by other writers. And it allows writers to create an explanation in a place that readers might actually find it.

  2. local editing: you can store all your personal knowledge base content locally in a plaintext markup format that can be edited locally and published either:
This way you can be sure that even if OurBigBook.com were to go down one day (which we have no plans to do as it is quite cheap to host!), your content will still be perfectly readable as a static site.
