For a continuous increasing scalar function, retain an interval whose endpoints bracket a target value, evaluate its midpoint, and keep the half that still brackets the target. Each step halves the interval length. Applied to a strictly increasing water-level equation, this finds its unique solution to any specified error tolerance.
