Argus is a programming language designed for constructing distributed and concurrent systems. It was developed in the 1980s as part of research into programming models for distributed computing. Argus aimed to provide a framework for building systems where components can operate independently and asynchronously while synchronizing when necessary. Key features of Argus include: 1. **Distributed Programming**: Argus is designed to support the development of applications that run on multiple machines in a network.
The arithmetic genus is an important concept in algebraic geometry, particularly in the study of algebraic varieties and schemes. It is a topological invariant that provides information about the geometric properties of a variety.
Arthur Henry White is notable in the field of history and academia for his contributions, particularly in the realm of historical writings or studies. However, it's worth noting that the name is shared by various individuals, and there may be different people with that name who have made contributions in diverse fields.
The term "Alpha case" may refer to different concepts depending on the context. However, it's not universally recognized as a specific term across all fields. Here are a few interpretations based on various contexts: 1. **Business and Economics**: In finance, an "alpha" generally refers to the measure of an investment's performance relative to a benchmark.
Arnaldo Ferrari Nasi is not widely recognized in major publicly available sources up to October 2023, and there may be limited or no information about him. If he is a figure related to a specific field, profession, or region, additional context would be helpful to provide relevant details.
Artaria generally refers to a fictional region or area found in various media, particularly in video games. It is most commonly associated with the popular "Metroid" series developed by Nintendo. In "Metroid Dread," which is the most recent installment of the series, Artaria is one of the locations players explore, featuring a rich landscape filled with enemies, puzzles, and secrets.
Arthur Compton (1892–1962) was an American experimental physicist best known for his work in the field of X-ray and gamma-ray physics. He is most renowned for the discovery of the Compton effect, which demonstrates the particle nature of electromagnetic radiation. This effect describes how X-rays or gamma rays collide with electrons, resulting in a change in the wavelength of the radiation, which provides evidence for the dual wave-particle nature of light.
In Unified Modeling Language (UML), an **Artifact** is a physical piece of information that is the result of a development process.
The Artificio de Juanelo, also known as Juanelo Turriano's Water Pump, is an intriguing historical engineering device located in Toledo, Spain. Designed in the 16th century by the Italian engineer and inventor Juanelo Turriano, it was created to supply water from the Tagus River to the city of Toledo, which is situated on a hill and experienced water supply challenges.
Augustin Maior is a notable figure in the field of mathematics and education, particularly recognized for his contributions to mathematics education in Romania. Presentational and representational acting are two fundamental approaches to performance in theater and acting that differ in how the actor engages with the audience and portrays the character. ### Presentational Acting: - **Definition**: This style of acting is characterized by a direct relationship between the actor and the audience. Actors make their performances visible and conscious, often breaking the "fourth wall." - **Characteristics**: - **Awareness**: The actor is aware of the audience and may even acknowledge their presence.
The terms "A Series" and "B Series" can refer to different concepts depending on the context, as they are used in various fields, including time series analysis, finance, project development, and more. Here are two common interpretations: 1. **Philosophy of Time**: - In the context of the philosophy of time, A-series and B-series refer to different ways of understanding temporal events.
A pressure tank is a type of storage container designed to hold fluids or gases at a pressure that is significantly higher than atmospheric pressure. These tanks are commonly used in various applications, including water systems (like well water and irrigation), chemical processing, and industrial operations. Below are key features and uses of pressure tanks: ### Key Features of Pressure Tanks: 1. **Construction**: Pressure tanks are typically made from durable materials such as steel, fiberglass, or plastic to withstand high pressures.
The Association for the Advancement of Philosophy and Psychiatry (AAPP) is an organization that aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue between philosophy and psychiatry. It seeks to explore the philosophical foundations and implications of psychiatric theories, practices, and issues, as well as to address conceptual and ethical questions related to mental health. The AAPP encourages collaboration among philosophers, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals.
The Association of European Operational Research Societies (EURO) is an organization that serves as a platform for the collaboration and development of operational research (OR) and management science across Europe. Founded in 1975, EURO aims to promote the discipline of operational research through the organization of conferences, publication of journals, and fostering connections among professionals and researchers in the field.
A pressurizer is a key component in pressurized water reactors (PWRs), a type of nuclear power plant. Its primary function is to maintain the pressure of the primary coolant system, which is essential for the proper operation of the reactor. In a PWR, water is used as both a coolant and a neutron moderator. The system operates at high pressure to prevent the water from boiling, even though it is heated to high temperatures by the nuclear fission reactions occurring in the reactor core.
An "astroid" refers to a particular type of mathematical curve, specifically a hypocycloid with four cusps. It is defined as the path traced by a point on the circumference of a smaller circle that rolls within a larger circle, where the radius of the smaller circle is one-fourth that of the larger one.
Athar Ali is a notable scientist known for his contributions to the field of physics, particularly in nuclear and particle physics. He has been involved in various research initiatives and has participated in projects related to high-energy experiments. While specific details about his work may vary, he is recognized within the scientific community for his expertise and research findings.
The Earth's atmosphere is a layer of gases that surrounds the planet, held in place by gravity. It is essential for life as it provides the air we breathe, protects us from harmful solar radiation, and helps regulate the planet’s temperature. The atmosphere can be divided into several distinct layers based on temperature and altitude: 1. **Troposphere**: This is the lowest layer, extending from the Earth's surface up to about 8 to 15 kilometers (5 to 9 miles) high.

Pinned article: Introduction to the OurBigBook Project

Welcome to the OurBigBook Project! Our goal is to create the perfect publishing platform for STEM subjects, and get university-level students to write the best free STEM tutorials ever.
Everyone is welcome to create an account and play with the site: ourbigbook.com/go/register. We belive that students themselves can write amazing tutorials, but teachers are welcome too. You can write about anything you want, it doesn't have to be STEM or even educational. Silly test content is very welcome and you won't be penalized in any way. Just keep it legal!
We have two killer features:
  1. topics: topics group articles by different users with the same title, e.g. here is the topic for the "Fundamental Theorem of Calculus" ourbigbook.com/go/topic/fundamental-theorem-of-calculus
Articles of different users are sorted by upvote within each article page. This feature is a bit like:
    • a Wikipedia where each user can have their own version of each article
    • a Q&A website like Stack Overflow, where multiple people can give their views on a given topic, and the best ones are sorted by upvote. Except you don't need to wait for someone to ask first, and any topic goes, no matter how narrow or broad
This feature makes it possible for readers to find better explanations of any topic created by other writers. And it allows writers to create an explanation in a place that readers might actually find it.

  2. local editing: you can store all your personal knowledge base content locally in a plaintext markup format that can be edited locally and published either:
This way you can be sure that even if OurBigBook.com were to go down one day (which we have no plans to do as it is quite cheap to host!), your content will still be perfectly readable as a static site.
Figure 5. . You can also edit articles on the Web editor without installing anything locally.
