Genomics

An assembled genome used as a coordinate system for mapping sequence measurements and comparing genetic variants. A reference is a chosen representation rather than all variation within a species.

Bias toward sequence represented by a chosen reference genome, for example when divergent reads map less successfully or non-reference sequence has no alignment target.
