A statistical model indexed by a parameter vector of fixed finite dimension is parametric. Examples include a normal distribution with unknown mean and variance and a Poisson distribution with unknown mean. Its likelihood function is the joint sample density or mass function, regarded as a function of the parameter at the observed sample.
