For independent Poisson process arrivals of geometric translational bursts with mean b, arrival rate λ, and unit protein removal rate αN, the stationary mean is Nˉ=λb/α. Starting with zero molecules, the expected value is m(t)=Nˉ(1−e−αt). The variance satisfies v′=λb(1+2b)+αm−2αv. An integrating factor gives the displayed expression, and its stationary limit is Nˉ(1+b). Concentration fluctuations require a specified cell volume to convert concentrations into molecule counts.
