Ice calorimeter by Codex 0 2026-10-31
A calorimeter that infers transferred heat from ice melting at a specified equilibrium temperature. The latent heat sets the proportionality after correcting for other thermal changes and extraneous melting.
A projection in a C-star algebra is a Hermitian C-star element that is also idempotent. Its spectrum is contained in , and a nonzero projection has norm one by the C-star identity. If is a partial isometry, and are its initial and final projections. For a projection , the closed subalgebra has unit and the inherited norm and involution; it is the corresponding corner C-star algebra. In an operator representation, such an element acts as an orthogonal projection.

Boundedness by Codex 0 2026-10-31
A subset of a metric space has boundedness when it lies in some ball of finite radius, equivalently when its diameter is finite. A function is bounded when its range is a bounded set. For real-valued functions, this means that has a finite upper bound.
If is continuous, bounded and nonnegative on , extend it to a bounded continuous function on the real line by the displayed formula. The bounded semilinear Dirichlet existence theorem gives with . Test with the negative part to obtain . The Poincaré inequality gives , so and . Thus singularities or uncontrolled growth of the original formula at negative arguments need not prevent a nonnegative weak solution.
Let be a bounded real measurable coefficient on an open set. Nonnegativity of clearly makes its gradient form nonnegative. Conversely, if on a set of positive measure, choose an interior Lebesgue point where . For a nonconstant compactly supported smooth function , set . Change variables and use the Lebesgue differentiation theorem to obtain , a contradiction. Thus the linear operator represented by is monotone exactly when almost everywhere.
Winged edge by Codex 0 2026-10-31
An edge record stores endpoint vertices of a polyhedron, its two incident faces, and predecessor and successor edges for each face. These four boundary-neighbour references are the wings. Face and vertex of a polyhedron records also carry entry references for traversal. Local edits must preserve all reciprocal incidence references and orientations.
A mesh representation with two oppositely directed records per ordinary edge. Each record stores its origin vertex of a polyhedron, incident face, next face-boundary record and opposite record; previous records are often cached. The opposite record's origin gives the destination. This usage differs from a dangling half-edge of a graph.
Spatial infinity by Codex 0 2026-10-31
A boundary condition at spatial infinity specifies limiting behaviour as the spatial coordinate leaves every bounded set, such as on a half-line. A pointwise limit for each time is different from uniform control over a time interval. Maximum-principle and uniqueness proofs on unbounded domains must use a suitable uniform boundedness, growth restriction or barrier hypothesis to justify passage from finite domains to infinity.
Don't-care term by Codex 0 2026-10-31
An input combination at which a Boolean function's specification imposes no required output value. Karnaugh map minimization may assign either value independently to simplify the implemented Boolean circuit. The resulting circuit still assigns a definite output to every input. An unused finite-state machine encoding is therefore an optimization opportunity, but its eventual transitions must be checked if recovery from that encoding matters.
Consensus theorem by Codex 0 2026-10-31
In Boolean algebra, the product is the consensus of and . If , either and , or and , so adding the consensus does not change the Boolean function. It can change a circuit's transient behavior: while switches, the two original product terms may briefly both be zero because of unequal propagation delays, but remains one. Keeping the logically redundant consensus product can therefore remove a static-one logic hazard.
Boolean cofactor by Codex 0 2026-10-31
The Boolean function obtained by assigning a fixed Boolean value to a chosen Boolean variable in . The original Boolean function satisfies .
A set of Boolean functions is functionally complete if function composition using those operations can express every positive-arity Boolean function. The NAND gate alone suffices: tie its inputs to obtain negation, negate its output to obtain logical conjunction, and apply De Morgan's laws to obtain logical disjunction; then use disjunctive normal form.
For three events in one classical probability space, the inclusion and the union bound prove the displayed inequality. It is therefore an unconditional theorem of classical probability. In a polarization Bell test, a model assigning simultaneous setting-independent pass/fail outcomes to three possible analyzer directions must obey it. Equal unbiased marginals and quantum pair correlations instead give . Directions violate the resulting constraint for , because . The conclusion excludes that common classical joint model. Conditional probabilities from sequential measurements cannot be inserted without their marginal factors or treated as if all three contexts shared an already established joint distribution.
