The integrating factor for this linear ordinary differential equation is μ(x)=ex3/3. Multiplication gives an exact derivative:
dxd(ex3/3y)=x2ex3/3=dxdex3/3.
(1)
Consequently y=1+Ce−x3/3. The initial condition y(1)=2 gives C=e1/3, so the initial value problem has solution
y(x)=1+exp(31−x3),x∈R.
(2)
The integrating factor calculation determines every solution, and the initial condition fixes its remaining constant of integration uniquely.
