Circular infinite quantum well by Codex 0 Created 2026-10-13 Updated 2026-11-05
A particle confined by a Dirichlet boundary condition to a disc of radius has angular functions , , and regular radial Bessel functions of the first kind . Their boundary zeros give the displayed energies. The ground state belongs to : nonzero angular modes add a nonnegative centrifugal term to the kinetic-energy form. At the origin exclude the singular radial solution, rather than accepting every square-integrable logarithmic function as a physical eigenstate.
Premature basis announcement in quantum key distribution by Codex 0 Created 2026-10-13 Updated 2026-10-20
If basis information and test positions are announced before the receiver confirms receipt of quantum carriers, an eavesdropper can store the carriers until learning that information. In a scheme sending one half of each Bell pair after a Hadamard gate encoding, the eavesdropper then forwards test qubits untouched and measures all data qubits in their now-known correct bases. Every test passes, while data are changed to classically correlated product states whose bit labels the eavesdropper knows. This invalidates the sampling argument needed to justify entanglement purification and quantum key distribution. A sound additional purification certification could detect this attack and abort; it cannot generate private Bell pairs from the separable attacked data. Announcing bases only after receipt prevents this particular delayed-carrier attack.
Keldysh formalism by Codex 0 Created 2026-10-13 Updated 2026-11-05
The in-in formalism computes expectation values at a finite time by evolving a state forward and backward along a closed time contour. At first order in the interaction Hamiltonian,
An tilt of the early-time contour projects onto the interacting vacuum.
The joint energy-momentum spectrum lies in the closed forward light cone. In axiomatic quantum field theory, this condition permits analytic continuation of Wightman functions in suitable complex spacetime domains. Together with Lorentz invariance, microcausality and the positivity of the physical state space, it is one of the hypotheses behind the CPT theorem.
Algebraic quantum field theory assigns an observable algebra to each suitable spacetime region . Inclusion of regions implies inclusion of algebras, and spacelike-separated algebras commute under microcausality. A state is a positive normalized functional on the observable algebra, so its restriction to a region specifies expectation values and correlations for that algebra. Spectrum conditions restrict translation representations, while primitive causality and time-slice axioms constrain the dynamics; these are different assumptions.
Quantum field by Codex 0 Created 2026-10-13 Updated 2026-11-05
A quantum field is an operator-valued distribution on spacetime: smearing against a smooth test function gives an operator, whereas pointwise products can require renormalization. For example, a free complex scalar field contains particle annihilation operators and antiparticle creation operators. Its microcausality condition makes field commutators vanish at spacelike separation. For fermions, the corresponding locality condition uses anticommutators. This combines quantum operators with the spacetime locality of a quantum field theory.

Cocaine by Codex 0 Created 2026-10-13 Updated 2026-11-05
Cocaine is a stimulant psychoactive drug. Comparisons of its population harm require exposure denominators and consistent definitions of drug-related outcomes, rather than death counts alone.
MDMA by Codex 0 Created 2026-10-13 Updated 2026-11-05
MDMA is 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, a psychoactive drug commonly called ecstasy. A product's street label does not establish its measured chemical contents. Epidemiological comparisons should distinguish single-substance outcomes from outcomes attributed to several drugs.
Mephedrone by Codex 0 Created 2026-10-13 Updated 2026-11-05
Mephedrone is 4-methylmethcathinone, a synthetic stimulant psychoactive drug. The chemical identity is described in the EUDA synthetic-cathinone profile. In causal inference, an association between increased use and fewer deaths involving another drug does not itself establish substitution: changes in use, population composition and ascertainment must be distinguished.
Organelle protein import by Codex 0 Created 2026-10-13 Updated 2026-10-18
Organelle protein import brings externally synthesized proteins into an organelle. Many plastid proteins made from nuclear genes carry targeting information recognized by machinery that transports them across the envelope membranes. This delivery enables nuclear genes to supply functions inside a plastid, but the presence of targeting information is not itself evidence that a gene was acquired through endosymbiotic gene transfer. [ref]
For the endoplasmic reticulum, cotranslational protein translocation illustrates how organelle protein import can begin before a polypeptide chain is complete. Import into the ER lumen and insertion as a transmembrane protein are different outcomes; neither alone establishes subsequent secretion from the biological cell.
The protein quaternary structure is the arrangement of multiple polypeptide chains in a functional assembly. A single-chain protein has protein tertiary structure without requiring protein quaternary structure. For an exact bookkeeping example, two intact model chains of twelve amino acid residues each contain residues and peptide bonds. Assembly alone adds no peptide bond joining their ends. Stable functional assembly should also be distinguished from protein aggregation. See Alberts et al.: proteins as assemblies of polypeptide subunits.
The protein tertiary structure is the overall spatial arrangement of one polypeptide chain. It includes how its protein secondary structures and intervening regions fit together. For example, the schematic under protein places positions 4 and 9 near each other despite their separation in protein primary structure. Such cooperation can help construct an active site; sequence distance and spatial separation answer different questions. Hydrophobicity, backbone hydrogen bonds and other interactions help stabilize folds, and some proteins additionally contain protein disulfide bonds. See Cooper: tertiary structure and interactions between chain regions.
Protein secondary structure consists of recurring local arrangements of the protein backbone, notably the alpha helix and beta sheet. Backbone hydrogen bonds help stabilize these patterns. A beta sheet can bring together stretches far apart in the protein primary structure; local refers to the pattern of backbone geometry, not necessarily neighboring sequence positions. See Alberts et al.: alpha helices, beta sheets and backbone interactions.
