For a fluid at fixed pressure, the volumetric thermal expansion coefficient obeys ρ(T0​+θ)≃ρ(T0​)(1−αθ). Under the Boussinesq approximation it determines the buoyancy proportional to gαθ, while mass density is otherwise held constant.
