The interpolating polynomial is
pn(x)=∑j=0nf(xj)∏0≤i≤ni=jxj−xix−xi.
For distinct interpolation nodes x0,…,xn, the polynomial ℓi(x)=∏j=i(x−xj)/(xi−xj) has ℓi(xj)=δij. These cardinal polynomials form a basis of the polynomials of degree at most n, and give p(x)=∑ip(xi)ℓi(x).
