Cellular respiration transfers energy from chemical fuels into usable forms including ATP. Plants carry out cellular respiration as well as photosynthesis; in its aerobic form, cellular respiration consumes molecular oxygen and releases carbon dioxide. See OpenStax Biology 2e, 8.3: energy flow.
