The Fresnel equations give reflection and transmission amplitudes for both transverse-electric and transverse-magnetic polarization of an electromagnetic wave at a planar interface. They follow by applying interface conditions for electromagnetic fields to incident, reflected and refracted plane electromagnetic waves.
